Humanity hates people.

We could have made our environment welcoming to cyclists and pedestrians, but we didn't. A car centric environment is the norm in many parts of the world, making it dangerous to be outside if you cannot or do not want to drive a car. Cars are getting bigger too, putting a larger strain on the environment, and making collisions with pedestrians and cyclists even more horrible for the person getting hit by a (careless) driver.
In the same vain: We could have made it easy for everyone to get around, by heavily investing in public transport and other travel options (cycling, walking), but we didn't. Again, the car won. This is a big f you to the elderly, the disabled, the single mom who cannot afford a murder machine on four wheels. Actually, it's a big f you to anyone who is out in the public and is NOT inside a car. In many parts of the world, it's very dangerous to just...walk outside, or take the shitty public transport that is available. Heck, the cars have won so hard that it's called "jaywalking" to cross certain roads, which is a crime in some countries.
We could have made living affordable, but we didn't. Housing takes up a large chunk of many people's salary. Buying a house is not possible for the large majority of people. They're stuck paying rents that could have easily been a mortgage payment. If you can't afford rent any more, better pick up a second or third job! Or, get evicted, I guess? But wait! Being homeless is often a crime. Thou shalt not loiter on the public streets. How exactly is this solving anything? Where are these people supposed to go?
We could have made learning affordable, but we didn't. Want to go to university? Better pony up thousands of dollars in tuition fee, and get into debt getting a degree! University or college shouldn't be (and isn't) the only way to learn, but quite often, jobs require proof that you have a degree. It's my most expensive piece of paper, how about you?
We could have made working a pleasant experience, but we didn't. Automation should have taken over the pesky tasks, so that we could focus on the worthwile stuff. The opposite happened. We're all more busy with bullshit tasks than ever before. And there are so many people working blue collar jobs that are being absolutely exploited for horrible wages.
And if you feel safe in your cushiony tech job, hold your beer! The real reason ChatGPT and these tools are being shoved down your throat is not to help you, but to replace you. The real market for these tools is the C-level. They're being promised the moon. The "AI" can take over the jobs of developers, customer support, you name it. Ohhhh, the money they would save if they no longer have to pay these pesky humans with their wants and needs. And have fun getting a new job, the job application processes have already been infested with AI crap.
Speaking of automation and tech, we could have developed it into something to solve actual problems, but we didn't. Big tech has solved a problem that should have been left alone, namely how to hack our attention spans. They also exploited the worst parts about human psychology: confirmation bias, cognitive dissonance. And they tapped into our rage and insecurities. Now, people who are wilfully spending hours on social media and using ChatGPT have slowly been...what do we call this...changed, I'd say. I was going to say brainwashed, is that too extreme? Everyone being in a personalised algorithmic bubble on social media, where they're only being fed stuff they like to hear or what would get them to "engage with the platform", is surely going to go well for society.
We could have made society NOT revolve around money, but we did. All these points so far, what is behind them? It's always money. The answer is always money. A few billionaires profit from exploiting humans.
Making education needlessly expensive and terrible makes someone money. Putting you into debt makes someone money. Making the world car centric makes someone money. Ruining the environment by only extracting the planet's resources makes someone money. Making social media and the LLM chatbots addictive makes someone money. Exploiting humans by paying them peanuts for their work makes someone money.
The whole system is rotten to the core. It is not designed for humans to live a dignified life. It is designed so a select few profit, while the rest of us suffers.
I cannot help but think: does humanity hate people?
Why do we do this to ourselves? It's actually insane.
I keep thinking of that scene from Avengers Infinity Wars, when Iron Man asks Dr. Strange "how many futures did you see?". And he says "14,000,605". Iron Man: "How many did we win?".
"One".
We sure as shit lost in this timeline, folks.
And no, I am not a misanthrope, I actually hold humans in high esteem (which cannot be said of big tech!). If you think I am one, based on this post, you should read it again. I want everyone to live a dignified life, a safe life, rich with opportunities and learning. That's my biggest wish, and it hurts so fucking much that my wish is a utopian one.
